Exchange programme with Madrid 2008
Teilnehmer des Schüleraustauschs mit Madrid haben ein Tagebuch in Englisch verfasst:
Monday
That day at 8 o’clock in the morning, we met at the teacher’s room at Siebold Gymnasium and we were told the programme of the exchange. We took a photo of ourselves in the schoolyard and then Frau Nickel-Göb guided us through the school. We really liked the building. We think it’s cool!
We had the first two lessons with Herr Bülles and Frau Sauer. Afterwards, we had a guided historical tour through Würzburg with Herr Singer, who told us lots of interesting things about the history of Würzburg and the bombings of 1945. We saw the Residence and its gardens, the cathedral, the town hall and Main River. We finished the tour in the Marktplatz, where we met our exchange partners.
In the evening, we did different things. Adrián, Álvaro, Laura, Julen, Minhui, Lisa, Szczepan, Judith, Kristina and Cilli went to a party at Szczepan’s house. Lucía, Irene, Andrea, Marina, Svetlana, Caroline, Katharina and Manuela went to a music shop, and afterwards they went to Manuela’s house to see Edward Scissorhands together. After that we went to sleep.

Tuesday
We got up at 6 o’clock.
, and we met the rest of the group at 8 o’clock at Siebold Gymnasium. First we were separated in three groups and two of them had an English lesson, and the other students attended different classes.
Afterwards, at quarter past nine we went with Espíritu to the “Fair-Trade-Shop” to visit the shop, to listen to a presentation about fair price coffee and we saw some slides about the production of coffee.
After that, we went to the train station and there we took the train to Rothenburg all together.
We were walking along the city wall and then we had free time in order to have lunch. Some people tasted the typical desert of the town, called snowball.
The medieval town was really incredible, there were a lot of strange and beautiful houses.
After our leisure time, we went to a museum about the medieval tortures. There were a lot of instruments to punish which frightened us a lot.
Afterwards we went to the World of Santa Claus (Christmas museum), a shop with a lot of things for Christmas which is opened the whole year. We have never seen something like this before!
After that, we had free time again, and then we took the train back to Würzburg and it was raining
, so everybody went home. It was a good opportunity to talk with the German people.

Wednesday
On Wednesday the Spanish group went on a trip to Bamberg. Early in the morning we met at High School. Afterwards, we went to the station in order to catch the train. The journey lasted for roughly an hour. In the meantime, we talked about our stay, sang and played cards.
When we arrived in Bamberg we met a tourist guide who showed us the city. He explained the history and meaning of every monument: Neptuno Square, The Old Council, the Residence (with a fantastic view) and finally, the cathedral.
The city is famous because of its art heritage and its exceptional beer, elaborated in one of the nine breweries of the city. Bamberg´s history goes back since 902, when Bamberg established their residence there. The city developed itself after the Thirty- Years´ War.
After a break for lunch and shopping, we visited the most famous brewery in the city, where the only kind of smoked beer in the world is served. There we were explained the elaborating process and we were able to try the beer.
We loved this experience, although we wished we could have spent more time there.
Thursday
On Thursday morning we got up as everyday. We arrived at High School and met each other at teachers’ room. We attended a very funny Spanish class with Herr Steinmetz, and we played a few games where we had to describe typical holidays (parties) of every country.
Then some Spanish went to visit the Residence and others had free time. Later Spanish and German went to the museum of art “Kulturspeicher“, in this museum we saw an exhibition of Australian art with a guide that explained the vision of the artist to us.
In the evening we had a party at Miriam’s house, everybody had to bring something typical of his/her country to eat such as ham, salads, desserts or something like this. At the party we ate all together and afterwards we sang and danced very much. We sang typical Spanish and German songs. Everybody was very satisfied and participative, we spent a nice time and the party was very funny.
Friday
Today it is last day of our stay in Würzburg. We all are thrilled for coming back home, on the other hand we would like to stay in this hospitable and interesting city .
After having visited diverse famous places like Bamberg, Rothenburg and Würzburg’s typical places such as the cathedral of the city, the river, the Residence, the High School, and many other interesting and spectacular monuments we are able to say that Germany is very beautiful!
We all will have lunch togehter for last time to be able to say goodbye in a restaurant called “Marktbärbel“.
Conclusion
The whole group recommends everyone to do the exchange and to visit this wonderful place.
We believe that it has been a very positive experience because we could learn many things about the culture, the customs, the way of life, the food … Also we got to know very nice people and we have been lucky to be with our exchange families that have treated us as part of their family.
We are looking forward to welcome you in Spain, and we hope you like our country as much as we like yours!
WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU IMPATIENTLY!!
